Your data lives on your device. With a Macuta account, the app also keeps an encrypted copy on Kioxke's server: on the web and on your phone, on every plan.
Password and recovery code
Your data is encrypted with your Macuta account password (the same one as on the web), which never leaves your devices; if you turned on Open your data with Google only, the key is kept in a hidden folder in your Google Drive. Not even Kioxke can read your data. If you forget the password or lose access to Drive, only the recovery code opens the data: keep it somewhere safe, off your phone.
Data file
In Settings › Data, Export data file saves a full copy (accounts, transactions, budgets, settings) to an encrypted .macuta file. Import data file restores a copy, or brings in data from a Cashew file.
Importing replaces this device's data with the file's; with an account, it is then merged with the account's data at the next sync. Export a copy of what you have first.
A CSV file isn't a full backup: it only includes transactions.
No backup, no recovery
Because your data is encrypted, Kioxke can't recover data that isn't in a backup. Before you assume it's lost, check:
- an old device that still has your data (export a data file there);
- your Macuta account on another device or on the web;
- a data file you exported before.
