A goal tracks progress towards an amount: saving up or paying something off. You add contributions as transactions, and Macuta adds them up to show what's left.
How progress is calculated
Progress is the sum of the transactions linked to the goal, compared with its target. You can contribute from any account; amounts are converted to the primary account's currency.
Goal types
- Savings: money coming in towards a target (emergency fund, a trip, retirement, a purchase). Contributions are income.
- Expense: money going out to pay for something planned. Contributions are expenses.
Templates
When you create a goal, you can start from a template: Emergency fund, Retirement, Trip, Purchase, Home, Car or Studies. The template fills in the name, icon and colour of a savings goal; you choose the amount and the date, and you can change anything before saving. To start from scratch, pick a type under Other goal.
Contribute
When adding or editing a transaction, pick the goal. For regular contributions, use repeating transactions.
Without changing your account balances
If you don't want contributions to change your everyday accounts, create an account just for the goal and log contributions there. See Budget or goal without affecting balances.
Create, edit and archive
On the Goals page (on a phone, under More), tap New goal to create one; with the pencil (Edit goals) you change the order, edit and archive with the eye icon. On the Copper plan you have one goal, savings or spending (archived ones count too); on Silver and Gold, as many as you want.
