Import movements and statements

CSV, Excel, PDF and photos of your bank statement

You can bring in movements from your bank or another app from a CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file, read on the device, or from a statement as a PDF or photo, read with AI. Go to Settings › Data › Import movements, or long-press (+). On the web, you can also drop the file onto the window.

CSV and Excel

  • They are read on the device, with no limit and nothing sent anywhere.
  • Macuta asks which column matches each field and remembers the columns for later files with the same columns.
  • The amount can be in one column (income positive and expenses negative, or with a D/C column) or in two columns, Debit and Credit.
  • The old .xls format isn't accepted: save it as .xlsx.
  • Tap Template, next to Import movements, to download a file with the right columns.

PDF and photos

A statement as a PDF, or photos of its pages, is read with AI: it needs an account, internet and your permission for AI reading. It counts towards your plan's statement limit: Copper 1, Silver 5 and Gold 20 a month. See Plans.

Categories and duplicates

  • With no category column, Macuta uses the category of a description it already knows, or Uncategorized.
  • Categories that don't exist are created as main categories; you can turn them into subcategories later.
  • Movements already in the account (same day, same amount and same type) are left out.

Undo

Each import is kept in Settings › Data › Imports, where you can undo it, even if you edited some movements afterwards. Right after importing, the notice also has Undo.

Transfers

Each transfer is two transactions (the one leaving one account and the one arriving in the other). After importing, open one of them and tap Transfer to link it to the other. See Transfers between accounts.
